Translating the Word of God

Translating the Word of God

For theologians and laity alike, reading and interpreting the word of God is one of the most important aspects of practicing Christianity, as evident by the incredible volume of bibles published from the early days of hand-press printing through today. The Gutenberg Bible (Latin Vulgate edition, c. 1450s) was the first book to be printed in Europe using the new technology of moveable type and the Gutenberg hand-press. However, mediating divine revelation through human language is rife with opportunity for translation errors and cultural miscommunication.
