Divine Revelation

Centuries of artists have attempted to visually depict biblical accounts of divine revelation, a challenging task as divinity is inherently incomprehensible to humanity. To overcome this, artisans drew upon recognizable symbols of revelation and literary biblical accounts to circulate recognizable imagery of holy visions and the angelic messengers. This resulted in hyper-realist illustrations of visions from God that could illicit terror and awe among the faithful.
