Welcome to "You can learn a lot from ADVERTISING" : the American Paper Experience an online exhibit of selected advertisements from the 19th and early 20th centuries that appeared in American print newspapers and magazines from the Digital Library@Villanova University.

The direct quote, for the exhibit, is drawn from The Chicago Ledger, March 29, 1919, that encouraged “reading advertisements” thus making the product advertised “valuable to you as you go through life.”[1]The exhibit’s purpose is to highlight these selected advertised snippets, ranging from 1858 to 1921, to illustrate the assorted merchandise readers encountered when perusing papers.

The exhibit’s focus is on the papers from the Digital Library@Villanova University’s digitized collections and include: The American Rural Home, (Rochester, NY), Ardmore Chronicle, (Ardmore, PA), The Chicago Ledger, (Chicago, IL), The Catholic Standard and Times, (Philadelphia, PA), Collier's Weekly, (New York, NY), The Fatherland, (New York, NY), The Fra: a Journal of Affirmation, (East Aurora, NY), The Gaelic American, (New York, NY), National Defender, (Norristown, PA), The Rural New-Yorker, (New York, NY) and The Youth's Companion, (Boston, MA).
