Exhibits engage members of the Villanova Community and the public at large with a thematic topic and set of documents from the collections of the University. They are designed to educate, inform, and entertain viewers both about the topic and the set of documents. Cases on the 1st floor of Falvey Memorial Library, near the elevator, present the physical exhibits.
Online library exhibits do not suffer from the space limitations of physical exhibits and enable viewers to more closely observe the fine details of documents and illustrations and to read more extensive text and access supplemental information such as timelines, bibliographies, and historical notes. Online library exhibits preserve and continue to inform even after the installation of a physical exhibit is concluded.
There are two categories of online library exhibits: those that are supplemental to a physical exhibit that at one time was installed in Falvey Memorial Library, and those that have been designed for a direct digital installation.
Exhibits are curated by Villanova staff, interns, and faculty; often an exhibit is a team endeavor from the selection of documents and the writing of didactic text, to the design and presentation of the graphic environment.
Since 2012, the Library has been engaged in producing digital humanities and other digital scholarship projects in conjunction with members of the University community. You can view a list of these projects here.
